Capital&Centric Makes Major Strides in Newcastle-under-Lyme Town Centre Revamp

Capital&Centric, the award-winning developer behind the acclaimed Goods Yard project in Stoke-on-Trent, has completed a critical phase in the transformation of Newcastle-Under-Lyme’s town centre. Astley Place, the former shopping centre, has been fully stripped out and sensitively demolished, paving the way for its much-anticipated conversion.

Appointed in June 2023 by Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council to breathe new life into the town centre, Capital&Centric are working on three landmark projects: the conversion of the former shopping centre (Astley Place), the repurposing of the adjacent Midway multi-storey car park, and an exciting new-build scheme at Rye Park that will bring an urban park and new homes to the heart of the town.

Planning permission for these transformative projects was granted in April 2024, providing the green light for Capital&Centric to move forward with the regeneration plans.

The developer is now in advanced talks with construction companies to deliver the projects. Significant work is being undertaken to ensure the scale and complexity of the town centre regeneration is delivered to the highest standards to transform Newcastle-under-Lyme.

With planning permission secured, Capital&Centric is also refining the designs for these three major schemes and will unveil new CGI imagery in the coming weeks. These visuals will offer residents and businesses a fresh glimpse into the vibrant future of Newcastle-under-Lyme’s town centre.

In the meantime, Capital&Centric have teamed up with Newcastle-Under-Lyme BID, ArtsKeele and Appetite for the town’s first Art Slam, a creative live art party that sees artists go head-to-head against the clock to create a masterpiece. Taking place at 7pm on 27th June, it’ll be an opportunity for partygoers to have a nosey behind the scenes of Astley Place. Tickets are £7 and can be bought from Skiddle.

Martin Crews, Development Director at Capital&Centric, said:

“The completion of the strip-out and sensitive demolition at Astley Place marks a significant milestone in breathing new life into the heart of Newcastle-under-Lyme. We’re focused on getting the right partners on board to deliver the next phase and can’t wait to share updated visuals with the community soon.”

Councillor Simon Tagg, Leader of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, said:

“This is another step forward in the exciting regeneration of our town centre. Working with Capital&Centric, we’re making real progress and showing residents and businesses that change is underway.”

This latest progress follows Capital&Centric’s recent appointment on the Spode site in Stoke-on-Trent, reaffirming their commitment to delivering innovative and community-focused regeneration across the region.
