All-local line-up announced for FREE WEIR:LIVE party under Stockport's iconic arches

Two stages, live music, a family-friendly rave, and a full day of Stockport talent going into the evening - all under one of the North's most iconic viaducts. And it won't cost you a penny.

Capital&Centric is throwing open the doors of its newly opened Weir Mill neighbourhood this autumn for WEIR:LIVE - a free, full-day community celebration on Chestergate, Stockport.

But this isn't a corporate launch with a hired-in headline act. Every DJ, musician, artist, record label and creative on the bill is from Stockport. WEIR:LIVE has been deliberately built around the people already making things happen in the borough - handing the stage to local talent, for a local crowd, in a neighbourhood that belongs to the town.

Ant Powell, Head of Work & Social at Capital&Centric, said:

"Weir Mill has been years in the making and we think it deserves a proper send-off into the world. WEIR:LIVE isn't a launch event - it's a party for Stockport. We wanted every act, every artist and every creative involved to be from this town. The talent is here, it's brilliant, and it deserves a stage. We want people who've watched this place come back to life to come down, have a drink, hear some great music and feel like this neighbourhood is already theirs. Because it is."

Cllr Micheala Meikle, Stockport Council Cabinet Member for Economy, Regeneration and Skills, said:

"Weir Mill’s launch party is for the people of Stockport to come together, have fun and experience for themselves just how much this incredible site has transformed. It is fantastic that the exciting line-up showcases local Stockport talent, rooting the celebration in the creativity and energy of our borough.

"Weir Mill was once a derelict landmark on the edge of our town centre. Now, it is a welcoming new neighbourhood, with attractive public squares, independent restaurants and spaces where families, friends and visitors can spend time.

"Breathing new life into one of our landmark heritage assets has created more reasons for people to visit Stockport and support the independent businesses that are helping make the town centre such an exciting place to be."

IT'S FREE - WITH A TWIST

WEIR:LIVE is free and open to everyone. No tickets, no fuss - just turn up. There will be a suggested donation on the day, with all proceeds going to the Greater Manchester Mayor's Charity.
