Sheffield street artists could help shape new neighbourhood

Capital&Centric opens up a paid mural commission at its new Fitzwilliam neighbourhood.‍

Sheffield's street artists are being invited to throw their name in for a major new commission at Fitzwilliam - Capital&Centric's upcoming new neighbourhood that is taking shape in the heart of the city.

Rather than arriving with a finished brief with a name already lined up, the social impact developer is opening up the opportunity to creative talent from across Sheffield.

Artists interested in getting involved just need to send their portfolio via DM on any Capital&Centric social media platform before the end of October 2026.

From there, the team will review submissions and shortlist two artists who will both be paid to develop an initial concept with no fixed format - paper, digital, spray, collage - whatever works for how they work.

One artist will then be selected for the final commission, worth up to £9,500, to bring a pair of large-scale murals to life at Fitzwilliam.

The murals will sit within Capital&Centric's wider plans for the site - 192 new homes, shared resident spaces, a plant-packed courtyard, rooftop terrace and space for an independent café or bar. A new pedestrian route will also connect Fitzwilliam Street to the neighbouring Eyewitness Works community.

"We want to give someone the chance to make these spaces their own and Sheffield's got a massive creative scene and loads of ridiculously talented artists. We're keeping the brief deliberately open - we want to see how artists work, what they're into and what they'd bring to Fitzwilliam. We’ve worked with people like Phlegm before on another site in Sheffield and we’re proud of our track record working with artists. We're looking for something with personality that feels at home in Sheffield and becomes part of the neighbourhood for years to come."

Previous mural experience isn't essential. The initial selection will focus on the strength and originality of existing work.
