Talbot Mill Hits Major Milestone as Conversion Tops Out

Capital&Centric has announced that Talbot Mill – the historic Manchester landmark getting a new lease of life – has officially topped out. It’s a massive milestone in the transformation of the formerly derelict iconic mill and the bold new build element that’s reshaping the skyline in Manchester’s emerging neighbourhood.

Built in the late 19th century, Talbot Mill was once home to one of Manchester’s bustling textile operations, a hub of innovation and craftsmanship that played a key role in the city’s industrial boom, before sitting empty for a decade. Now, it’s set for a new chapter as a vibrant residential community that respects the past while embracing the future.

The topping out ceremony saw the final beam hoisted into place on the new penthouse floor, capping off months of careful restoration and a contemporary conversion. The project blends the rich industrial heritage of the Grade II listed mill with striking new architecture.

John Moffat, Joint Managing Director at Capital&Centric, said:

“Talbot Mill has always been part of Manchester’s story – an icon of the city’s industrial heyday. Seeing it reach this milestone is huge for us. We’re taking the best bits of the old – the history, the character – and bringing in new design and energy to create something that’s truly special. This is what we do so well: beautiful homes that feel authentic and rooted in the city, with spaces for people to live and thrive.”

Once complete, Talbot Mill will offer a mix of carefully restored loft apartments and bold, design-led new build homes – including a spectacular penthouse floor that crowns the mill with panoramic views across the city. Residents can expect the signature Capital&Centric touches throughout: generous spaces, authentic materials and a real sense of community.

The project will also create lush green courtyards and social spaces for residents, with the mill’s original industrial features – from brick façades to massive windows – lovingly retained and repurposed.

The topping out of Talbot Mill builds on Capital&Centric’s track record of breathing new life into Manchester’s historic buildings, including the RIBA award-winning Crusader Mill, Ducie Street Warehouse, Minto & Turner and Minshull’s Mill at Kampus. It’s another milestone in their mission to create vibrant, design-led communities that stay true to the city’s roots while looking firmly to the future.

Talbot Mill is expected to welcome its first residents next year.
