Capital&Centric completes on Fitzwilliam as Sheffield neighbourhood moves into next chapter

Capital&Centric has officially completed the purchase of Fitzwilliam, a bold new neighbourhood in Sheffield’s Mesters’ Village, marking a major milestone and clearing the way for work to get underway on 192 design-led homes in the heart of the city.
The social impact developer has now taken ownership of the site and will create a new rental community which will bring a mix of apartments alongside a whole host of spaces designed to bring people together. From communal lounges with spaces to work, and hang out, to a plant-packed courtyard made for switching off, there’ll also be a rooftop terrace with views across the Steel City.
Down at ground floor level, there’ll be space for an independent café-bar operator to move in and make their own, adding more life and activity to the neighbourhood.
Located between Sheffield city centre and Kelham Island, Fitzwilliam forms part of Capital&Centric’s wider vision for the area, Mesters’ Village. As part of the plans, the developer is making the area easier to explore on foot by opening up the streets around Fitzwilliam to create a walking route through to the Eyewitness neighbourhood.
The project continues Capital&Centric’s investment into Sheffield, following the transformation of the former Cutlery Works into Eyewitness - now home to hundreds of residents and a growing creative community.

Mark Edwards, Development Director at Capital&Centric, said:
“Fitzwilliam is another big milestone in shaping a new neighbourhood for Sheffield. Completing on the land means we can now push ahead with bringing forward 192 new homes alongside public spaces for people to socialise. But it’s not just about the buildings, we’re opening up routes through the area, improving connections and creating a neighbourhood that feels social, walkable and full of energy. Sheffield’s got an incredible independent spirit and that’s exactly what we want Fitzwilliam to build on.”
Designed with long-term renting in mind, Fitzwilliam residents will share and make use of amenities across the wider area, including lounges, co-working areas, outdoor spaces and rooftop views across the city.
More details on timings and future operators at Fitzwilliam are expected to be revealed as the scheme progresses.
