Weir Mill’s line-up grows as ‘Kontrol’ brings a fresh take on pilates to Stockport

April 13, 2026

A new wellness concept is joining the line-up at Weir Mill, with ‘Kontrol’ set to open as Stockport town centre’s first studio to offer both reformer and mat pilates – bringing a fresh, feel-good mix to Capital&Centric’s water-side neighbourhood.

The studio will see a characterful industrial space reworked into a calm, design-led setting that balances movement with stillness. Expect nine luxury reformer beds, alongside a dedicated area for mat pilates and barre, all wrapped up in the building’s double height space, floor to ceiling glazing and generous proportions.

Kontrol blends classical pilates principles with a more contemporary approach, built around its ethos of “building the body’s framework for life”. Open seven days a week, it’ll offer a mix of beginner, intermediate and 1-2-1 sessions, led by expert instructors with a deep understanding of anatomy and movement.

It’s the latest addition to the growing indie mix at Weir Mill, where heritage buildings and modern structures are being reimagined into a neighbourhood built around lifestyle, community and wellbeing.

Vanessa Lees, Founder of Kontrol, said:

“I grew up in Stockport so it’s not only really exciting to be part of the Weir Mill development but also to watch the town evolve and grow. We’re really looking to welcoming both Stockport residents and workers to our studio. Pilates isn’t just a form of exercise, it’s a discipline. We’re not only moulding bodies to look super healthy, we’re also building a formidable structure to carry us through to our 80s and hopefully beyond.”

John Moffat, Joint Managing Director at Capital&Centric, said:

“Kontrol is a brilliant addition to Weir Mill and a great example of the kind of operators we’re welcoming to the scheme to curate the perfect mix. So much more than just food and drink venues - we’re bringing together a diverse neighbourhood where everything’s on yourdoorstep, from social spaces to wellness. You’ve got the river, the green spaces, the food and drink offer, and now somewhere to focus on your wellbeing. It’s all part of building a place people genuinely want to spend time in.”

Lord Gavin Barwell, Chair of Stockport’s Mayoral Development Corporation, said:

“Having an independent business that offers such a hugely popular health and wellbeing activity choose Weir Mill for its studio is another fantastic vote of confidence in Stockport. A pilates space of this quality will bring something fresh to our new neighbourhood - an inclusive, calming place by the water where people of all ages and abilities can come together to build strength, look after their wellbeing, and feel part of a growing community. This is exactly what regeneration should deliver: new jobs, strong independents and more reasons for people to spend time in our town centre, while keeping the character that makes Stockport what it is. Investment of this quality shows the direction we’re heading and the momentum we’re building, ensuring Stockport remains a vibrant, welcoming and thriving place for residents, visitors and businesses alike.”

Kontrol joins a growing line-up of independent operators choosing Weir Mill, as Capital&Centric continues to bring new life to the historic site.
