Sneak Peek Inside Civic, Wigan’s Boldest New Workspace
Social impact developers Capital&Centric have today unveiled the first look inside Civic, the radical restoration of Wigan’s former Civic Centre, now reimagined as a design-led hub for start-ups, creatives and growing businesses.
Set in the heart of the town centre, the once-vacant 1970s council offices have been transformed into a one-of-a-kind workspace, with interiors that fuse raw original features with curated contemporary design. Think exposed waffle concrete ceilings, corduroy concrete feature walls, slick Pronorm kitchens with Quooker taps, and fully furnished spaces by iconic Scandi design house HAY.
Civic isn’t your average office. Alongside the all-inclusive monthly desks and private suites, members get access to a south-facing rooftop terrace, fully kitted out gym, a mini cini, plus bookable meeting rooms for when you need to really get down to business.
On the ground floor, there’s going to be a café-bar open to the public for daytime coffees or after-hours hangs, with more details to be revealed soon.
John Moffat, Joint Managing Director at Capital&Centric, said:
“Civic is a proper design moment for Wigan. We’ve worked hard to bring out the character of the original building, keeping the brutalist details that made it iconic, but layering in the style, amenity and energy that makes it somewhere people want to work. Whether you’re a solo entrepreneur or an established business, Civic has space for you. It’s about creating community, not just office space.”

Councillor David Molyneux MBE, Leader of Wigan Council, said:
“After touring Civic and its showroom suite, it’s clear to see the potential it holds. It presents an exciting opportunity for businesses who want workspaces with purpose thanks to Capital&Centric.
“These former council offices are set to mark the beginning of a new chapter for prospective businesses, entrepreneurs, and start-ups. It’s incredibly exciting to see this transformation happening right here in the heart of Wigan, and we’re proud to be part of that journey.
“There’s a real buzz in Wigan at the moment—from the transformation of The Galleries, now known as Fettlers, to Cotton Works at Eckersley Mill, and STACK at the former Debenhams site. Wigan is fast becoming the place to live, work, and visit.”
With views across Wigan and interiors that make a statement, Civic is set to become the go-to HQ for businesses who want more from their workspace.
Civic is set to welcome businesses from August 2025. Those interested in joining the community can find out more info and book a viewing at www.capitalandcentric.com/civic
