Big plans for Middlehaven. New homes, green spaces and fresh life around the Old Town Hall.
Middlehaven, Boro. Revived.
We're working with Middlesbrough Council to look to bring new life back to where Middlesbrough began.
We’re looking to shape a UK-first neighbourhood where living, learning, working and playing all come together. Bringing 462 new homes and low-rise apartments alongside education, major sporting facilities and space for digital and creative businesses, all stitched together by green walking routes, parks and natural play spaces.
What's planned.
The land surrounding the Old Town Hall has been empty and underused for too long, so we’re looking to turn the site, located north of Middlesbrough Railway Station and south of the River Tees, into a brand-new neighbourhood that encourages people back into this historic area of Middlesbrough.
We’ve been hard at work developing the plans alongside architects MVRDV and shedkm to revive this space, and we are excited to now be in a position to share the first phase with the people of Middlehaven.
The Plans.
The plans for phase one could include:
· A mix of up to 462 new homes and low-rise apartments
· Shared gardens, play streets and green pedestrian routes
· Community spaces
· Vegetable patches
· Barbecue areas and fire pits
· A neighbourhood park, natural play areas, courtyards and other spaces to sit and chill
· Key routes and views that line up with the Old Town Hall
Space to Thrive.
Shared spaces, shared community.
Phase one has been designed with community and common benefit at the forefront. We believe that these spaces are key to creating happy, thriving neighbourhoods. Shared gardens, play streets and green spaces will give people places to relax, meet friends and spend time together to realise this vision.
The plans include community spaces, alongside vegetable patches, barbecue areas, fire pits and neighbourhood courtyards. Together, these shared amenities are designed to bring people together and help create a strong sense of community from day one.
Greener routes and revived connections.
The Middlehaven site, in an area previously known as St.Hilda’s, sits between Middlesbrough town centre, the railway station and the Grade II listed Tees Transporter Bridge. We want to make it easier to move through the area while creating greener, more welcoming streets that put people first.
The plans could introduce green pedestrian routes, shared public spaces and neighbourhood parks that reconnect St Hilda's with the wider area. Key streets and views have been carefully designed around the Old Town Hall, helping celebrate the area's heritage while creating an attractive place to walk, spend time and live.
